The Circolo Golf Venezia is an 18-hole golf course established in 1930, where the fairways alternate with wooded areas. In 2012, it was ranked eighth in the prestigious "Top Ten" list of the best golf courses in Italy, published annually by Golf Digest. The course, which stretches over 6 km, is richly lined with maritime pines, willows, mulberry trees, and poplars. It hosted the Italian Open in 1955, 1960, and 1974.
Legend has it that the idea for the golf course on the Lido of Venice originated from a conversation between Count Giuseppe Volpi di Misurata and automotive industry magnate Henry Ford. When Ford expressed his desire to play golf, Count Volpi replied that within three months he could return with his friends and play on as many holes as they wished.
